224: Your Podcast Is a Calling—Not Just Content
[00:00:00] Okay, let's get real here for a minute. We're told to treat our podcasts like content machines, right? Something to batch, repurpose. Check off our list. And those things are true. But what if your podcast is something more?
What if it's a calling, a living expression of your voice, your purpose, your legacy? This is a huge piece of the Voice Keeper framework, and I'm excited to chat with you about it today.
[00:01:00] Hello and welcome back to the Voice Keeper Podcast. I'm Caroline, and today we're tapping into one of the most powerful truths that I know and that I have really come to realize through my work in the podcasting industry. And that is that your podcast isn't just content. It's a calling. This episode is a gentle but direct reminder that you are not here just to keep up.
You're here to move people to say what only you can say. So let's talk about what that really means and what might be getting in the way. So it is morning here in my house. I am so tired. We drove to Denver yesterday to see, um, the musical and Juliet. 10 outta 10, highly recommend. , I had received that the tickets as a gift for my 40th birthday, which was obviously over a year ago because I'm now [00:02:00] 41.
, And you had to buy 'em so far in advance. So it was like this birthday present that I was just sitting on for over a year and we got to go and it was so fun and it was so inspiring. And one of the things that I really loved about the show was. There were so many main characters. You know, usually you go see a show and there's like one or two people that the whole thing focuses on, and this show really focuses on like a group of people and it just.
Always amazes me. I have a daughter who, who is, is in musical theater and she really wants to, , pursue that later on in her life. And so when we go and we see these musicals, like that one, , come from a way is another really good one where it really is an ensemble effort. It just, oh, I just love it so much.
Having come from the ballet world where, you know, you had. Principal dancers, you had soloists, you had the quarter ballet, you had, uh, the backups, you know, from that. It was just very segmented and it always felt like, you know, you weren't [00:03:00] part of the club until you moved up. And so it was really cool to see that it was such a fun, , experience for us.
, I live in Colorado Springs and so driving to Denver can often be quite an event. , 'Cause there's always horrible. Denver traffic. So, , we got home late last night and then it was like, you know, we'd been in the car and sitting all day, so we needed to unwind. So we worked out, we watched, , we played video games, those kinds of things, and before you knew it, it was midnight.
So if I have my coffee morning voice, that is why. But I am super excited to be here with you today. Super excited to be recording this podcast episode. I have to be honest with you all like. This transition into being fully embodied in what I believe and the framework that I wanna teach and the work that I wanna do has been really hard.
There's been a lot of friction at times. There's been a lot of, . You know, things kind of sloughing off in my life that don't support [00:04:00] that and it's been hard. It's been a hard experience and I was actually speaking to a client yesterday or the other day about this same thing. She recently launched her podcast, and her podcast is definitely her calling.
It is meant to be. Her creating a movement, starting something, speaking about something that is so passionate to her. And it was like the minute she launched her podcast, the universe was like, challenge, challenge, you know, putting things, obstacle, obstacle, putting things in her way and. Part of our conversation was really like, you know, when this is happening, this means that you are doing something meaningful and it's the universe testing you and saying like, are you fully committed to this?
And so I want us to put that all in the back of our head as we think about our calling, as we think about our podcast, as we think about the work that we do and maybe some of the challenges and obstacles we hit up against. You know, those really are there for a reason. [00:05:00] Mm. And , it doesn't mean that what you're doing is wrong, it or not, what the universe wants you to be doing, it means that you are having to decide, is this really the thing that I want to do?
So with all of that in mind, let's land here together. If it feels safe for you, close your eyes. Bring your awareness to your breath. Ask yourself, when was the last time I felt truly called to say something on my podcast? What was that like? What was the feeling That feeling, that feeling that you felt?
That's your voice leading, and that's what we want more of. So in the rush. To be strategic, consistent, visible, all the things right? We often lose sight of the deeper reason We started podcasting in the first place. I have worked with so [00:06:00] many podcasters who feel uninspired, disconnected, or like their show has become just another marketing task, and under the surface there's this ache.
There's this longing. You know, they'll say, it doesn't feel like me anymore. I hear that a lot, or I'm not sure that this content represents who I am right now. Right. And the truth is, your podcast is more than just marketing. It is a space for truth telling, community building, and transformation. And when you reconnect with that calling, everything changes.
So we're gonna talk about a few things that I want you to think about when you are thinking about creating content , and podcasting in general. Because this is something that I think, especially in this day and age with all the noise is so, so important, right? So the first one, your podcast is an extension of your voice, not just your brand.
When you treat it like a performance, you disconnect from [00:07:00] a soul of your message. So when we're constantly showing up and trying to be something we're not, right. Trying to perform, trying to do what people think or what we think people want us to be doing, right? It may not feel like us. It may not feel like the actual personality, the actual soul, the actual feeling of what our messaging is.
And when you let your messaging actually reflect your truth, it becomes magnetic, right? one of the things I often hear from clients, and I had a client recently where we talked about this and she said, I want my podcast to be part of my legacy. But right now, it just feels like a funnel. And there is a way for it to be both, right?
Like it can be a funnel and part of your legacy. So one of the things we did was we really rebuilt the structure of her podcast to hold her actual message. So like, what is the thing that you actually wanna talk about? What is the thing that you're passionate about? And [00:08:00] everything shifted because that passion, that passion is contagious, right?
But it has to happen everywhere. And like, I will be completely honest with all of you. Like I struggle with how I show up on this podcast. I so struggle with showing up in the same way on Instagram and social media. It doesn't come as naturally to me. It's something I'm working on right now. 'cause I want it all to be, , cohesive, right?
I want it all to feel the same, and that can be hard. The second thing I want you to think about is that your podcast can serve. Your audience and your spirit, right? Like this is not about abandoning strategy. Again, strategy. So, so important. We are gonna be digging into strategy in this podcast more. , A lot of my previous episodes are all about strategy, so we're not leaving strategy behind because strategy is important because podcasting without strategy means you're just throwing content out into the world, right?[00:09:00]
But we want it to be aligned, right? So when your podcast is built from your voice, it naturally is going to support connection and conversion. I want you to hear that when it's built from your voice, it naturally supports connection and conversion. So some things I want you to do if you are listening to this as you're working, , if you're driving, okay, you can write these down later, but, you know, revisit your original Why for starting the show?
Why did you start the show? Yes. It may have been, I wanna get more clients, but take a little deeper, right? It was that you wanted your message to reach more people. You wanted people to really get what you were doing right. And then once you root into that, why a little bit more. I want you to audit your last five episodes.
Did they feel soul led? I recently went through a phase with my podcast where it was [00:10:00] very much not soul led. I was definitely chasing numbers and I'm in a period of transition and growth myself. And sometimes that rears its ugly head as like metrics, metrics, metrics. And so I was creating episodes to be, to go viral, I guess is the word that I would say.
and it's been really refreshing to kind of sit back into that, well, like, let's find dandy, but like, what, what would feel really good for me to talk about right now? And then on top of that, you can also ask what conversation am I uniquely called? To lead right now. I definitely find in my business there are these phases where I can feel that I'm being pulled to talk about something.
, I'm being pulled in a certain direction, not just my business, but my life also. And the two are intertwined, right? , And so that's something that, is interesting as I really step into this voice keeper moment. Like, okay, well it's not a moment, it's gonna [00:11:00] be. A whole, it's gonna be a whole vibe, but when I step into this, like, you know, there are things that I'm called to, to talk about right now that, that are related to podcasting, not directly.
And so it's gonna be interesting trying to weave that in. And maybe that's a challenge to all of us. Like, you know, can we also talk about us things that are really important to us and how does that allow us to connect and build community? Right. The last thing is that your podcast is part of your legacy.
What you say here matters, and what you don't say matters too. So it's okay to let your podcast be a reflection of what you stand for, not just what you sell. Right. And I think that when we think about it that way, and we think about who we buy from, we buy from people who stand for things that we think are important, right?
We do. We do. It happens. I know for me, it's definitely a thing, you know, I'll be scrolling on Instagram [00:12:00] and I'll see somebody post something and I'll be like, well, you know that I, I am a hundred percent in agreement with that. Oh my gosh, what does she have to offer? You know, it is definitely something that intrigues me.
And pulls me in. And I think, I know for me for many, many years I have been afraid to discuss things that are outside, my realm of like business and podcasting. But the thing is, is. Things that are outside of the realm of business and podcasting affect business and podcasting. And so it should be okay to talk about them.
And I think it's really interesting. , I saw recently, , an old friend of mine has been posting a lot about the tariffs. She's the product based business owner, and the comments have been absolutely insane. Like, stay in your lane, just create planners. Why are you. Rocking the boat, like all this stuff.
And she finally posted the other day. She was like, you know. All of this stuff that I'm talking about affects my [00:13:00] ability to do these things, and that's why I am talking about them. And so I don't want you to ever feel like you have to stay in your lane. I know that the online world is hard, and I know that there are a lot of us out there with a lot of different belief systems, but it's okay to be rooted in yours and to have that affect your work and your message and your voice and all of those things.
And I know that that is something that I am. Working on and leaning into, , a lot of these things do not happen overnight because when we really start to stand firm in our message and think about our podcast as part of our legacy, it can be uncomfortable. You know, it's a challenge. It's calling us to, to say more, to do more.
And it can feel like a lot. And if you are feeling that way as you're listening to this podcast episode, just know that I'm right there with you. Like I am going through this exact thing right now with my messaging with my business. I think it, it's really easy to just sit [00:14:00] here and be like, podcasting, podcasting, podcasting.
That's not who I am in my everyday life, and so why would I be that way and just my business, right? So anyways, I hope that this is all some really good food for thought. , This is something that when you work with me one-on-one, like this is what , we're gonna talk about this, you know, what is your why, why are you wanting to record every week?
Why do you wanna have this podcast? How is it going to support the work that you do and the work that you're gonna do later? This is such an important piece because any strategy we create is not gonna work if you are not rooted in your why, in your purpose. So if this episode stirred something, awaken you, if you're feeling the nudge to reconnect your podcast with your purpose.
I am doing a little experiment this month, and I would love to invite you into a free voice keeper awakening session. This is a 30 minute [00:15:00] call where we pause, reflect, and begin to realign your podcast with the truth of your voice and the heart of your business. No pressure, just clarity, space, and support.
And if it sounds like what you need, you can head to wild home podcasting.com/awaken, or the link will be in the show notes. I would love to hold space with you. And before we go, just to remember, you are not just a content creator. You're a voice keeper. We all are voice keepers, right? And your podcast, it's a living channel for the truth only you can speak.
So let it be deep. Let it be honest. Let it be yours. Until next time, keep speaking what's true. Remember, your voice is always enough.
